Health Improvement Practitioner Service - Free for Enrolled Patients
Now Available Every Monday afternoon and All-day Tuesday
Kia ora, my name is Michelle Cooney, and I'm a Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) at Royal Oak Medical Centre.
As a HIP, I support people of all ages and life stages to enhance their overall wellbeing. I offer brief, focused interventions and follow-up for a wide range of physical, spiritual, social, and mental health concerns. Some of the common areas I work with include:
- Sleep difficulties
- Chronic pain
- Anxiety and stress
- Identity-related issues (including cultural, sexual, and gender)
- Social challenges such as parenting, relationships, loneliness, and domestic violence
- Addiction-related concerns
HIPs are generalists, which means we're not limited to specific areas—we're here to work with anyone, on anything that impacts wellbeing.
About Michelle
My journey into this role stems from a background in Mental Health. I've worked as a Registered Psychotherapist across Private Practice, NGOs, and more recently, in Primary Health Care. I'm passionate about working alongside people and take a strength-based approach that empowers individuals to navigate life's challenges.
Outside the clinic, I love spending time with family and friends, travelling, dancing and soaking up new experiences that enrich my perspective and bring joy.
This service is free for all enrolled patients. To book an appointment with Michelle, please contact our reception team.
